Summer !

We wish all members of the school community a safe and happy summer. School will reopen on Thursday August 30th. Children will be supervised in the yard from 8.40 a.m.

4th class have been learning all about electricity. We designed simple circuits using batteries and wire. We then used what we had learnt to design lighthouses with a simple switch to turn them on and off. We added lots of interesting features and characters.

Monster Raffle

There was incredible excitement today when we all went to the P.E. hall for the Monster raffle organised by our Parents Association. Everybody, including the teachers,  had their fingers crossed hoping to be one of the lucky winners of the fabulous prizes on display. There was one lucky girl picked out from each class and then all the tickets were added to a draw for the remaining prizes.

Two teachers were prizewinners…congratulations Ms. Collins and Ms. Breslin

Well done to the Parents Association. It took a lot of organizing and hard work.A huge thanks to all the parents and local businesses who donated prizes, vouchers etc.

Monster Raffle

The Parent’s Association’s Annual Fundraiser  is a Monster Raffle which will take place at a special assembly on Friday 27th April 2018 in the main School Hall.

The raffle will be drawn by our school principal, Carmel Hume, and is certain to provide great excitement for the girls. A raffle ticket priced at €5 each will be provided to each girl in the school by their class teacher  on April 17th and sent home for completion (contact name/number).

This ticket must be returned fully completed with the entry fee of €5 to their class teacher before Tuesday 24th  to ensure inclusion in their class raffle and the monster raffle all of which will take place at the school assembly on Friday 27th April. Each class ticket is colour coded and any girls wishing to purchase additional tickets may do so through their class teacher, this will facilitate making the raffle draws run smoothly. There is a class prize for all 23 classes in the school, therefore a winner in each class. All tickets will then be included in the monster draw for some fantastic prizes! All prizes come with a Homework Pass which is certain to bring a smile to all faces.

Once again, we are delighted with the positive response from local businesses and parents within the school to our sponsorship request. Among the many fantastic prizes are tickets to Taylor Swift and Michael Bublé in concert, an Ipod, a Scooter, Family passes to The Wax Museum, Dinner at Brambles, Hampers, Gift Vouchers for: BDazzling Hair & Beauty Salon, Eddie Rockets, Base Pizza, Foam Café, Village Bistro, O’Brien’s Wines and many more! Prize and sponsor list are attached. If there are any further sponsored prizes, please leave into the school office before Wednesday 25th April.

Thank you to all our sponsors, to our School Secretary, Yvonne Doyle, for her help with ticket printing and to our Principal, Carmel Hume, Raz and all the teachers for their help in facilitating this event.

Wishing everyone the best of luck and thank you for your support.

Kind regards

Feed the birds

We made beautiful bird feeders to hang in our gardens and they turned out to be quite useful recently during the very cold weather. The girls have been observing garden birds as they feed from them.

Choir News

Ms. Keating’s choir are busy rehearsing at the moment for the Córfheile in March and other upcoming performances. Check out their beautiful singing !

Artist in Residence

What an exciting start the girls in Ms Flood’s class had with artist Jane Groves.

The girls were very much looking forward to meeting and working with Jane in a creative and fun way.

As an introduction Jane began by reading ‘The Gruffalo’ to the children and from there a discussion about habitats followed. The children then began to design and make their own nests and webs. What amazing work they did individually and collaboratively.

This learning experience will continue…..  keep watching!

Fighting Words Writing Workshop

On Monday Ms Geraghty’s Third Class took part in a creative writing workshop with Fighting Words. They all went home with a book they had written in the workshop that morning. Each child  wrote their own ending to the book and it was a very worthwhile and enjoyable morning. A big thanks to all the wonderful volunteers in Fighting Words
