Keeping Active in Third Class!

3rd class have had a very active few weeks! We had a visit from the Fyffes Fit Squad, and enjoyed a fantastic morning of fun and exercise. We were shown lots of exercises we can do at home which don’t require any equipment or a lot of space. Thank to you coach Tom for putting us through our paces and for the free bananas!

We had our sports day on June 6th. We really enjoyed taking part in all the different races with our teams. Congratulations to the yellow team who were the overall winners of the senior school sports day. We all really enjoyed ice cream and having a go on the bouncy castles after the award ceremony!

Third Class News!

We really enjoyed meeting some of the fascinating reptiles from the National Reptile Zoo when they visited our school in January. We learned about tarantulas, lizards and snakes. Here are some of Ms O’Neill’s girls who decided to take a closer look!

Fighting Words Writing Workshop

On Monday Ms Geraghty’s Third Class took part in a creative writing workshop with Fighting Words. They all went home with a book they had written in the workshop that morning. Each child  wrote their own ending to the book and it was a very worthwhile and enjoyable morning. A big thanks to all the wonderful volunteers in Fighting Words

Lego Workshops

We had great fun last week doing Lego workshops. The girls from 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes made a variety of objects from Lego. We then used the computer to design a programme to make our spinners, robots and crocodiles move. We loved designing and working like engineers !

3rd Class Tour to Lullymore

The 3rd classes had a great day out in Lullymore yesterday. We saw lots of animals and we played in the outdoor playground. We saw a replica of a famine cottage, a hedge school and we learned lots of interesting facts about life in Ireland in the past. We loved visiting the Fairy Bower and making a wish at the fairy Tree. We had a road train ride around the Bog of Allen. It was a fantastic day out !

Hugh Lane Gallery

The 3rd classes recently visited the Hugh Lane Gallery. We had a guided tour of the galley and we viewed paintings by a number of different artists. We loved Sean Scully’s work and the beautiful stained glass work of Harry Clarke.

We also saw the Frances Bacon studio…what a messy room !

After the gallery we went to the Garden Of Remembrance and enjoyed our lunch in the beautiful sunshine. We saw the statue of the Children of Lir

We have been inspired by our gallery visit to paint in the style of Sean Scully. We painted on paper and on canvas

Fabric and Fibre

3rd class made some interesting abstract pictures using all different kinds of fabric and fibre

Museum Trip

3rd class went on a trip to the National Museum in Kildare Street. Our guide Trisha told us all about the Ancient Egyptians and how they buried their dead. We took part in a workshop where we made some scarab beetles.

After the museum we stopped off in St. Stephens Green and we had great fun in the playground

Hot Air Balloons

The 3rd classes have been learning all about the history of transport. We made colourful hot air balloons
