Sculpture in the making

Oh wow, what a  busy day we had yesterday! The girls really had to cooperate and work together to design and create their cloud sculpture.

Work started with everybody having an individual willow circle,  then together in groups of four or five they combined the circles to form spheres. This  required good team work as it was quite tricky to stick the circles together but everyone did their very best.

Having successfully done this the girls then combined their spheres together to form the sculpture.

Next came the messy bit which once again required cooperation, this time with a partner. Jane had some very special paper with her which the girls stretched to cover the cloud. It was really sticky and gooey!  The children collected some small leaves and petals to add texture and an element of colour to our sculpture.

As you can see the girls did a great job and were very pleased with their work. After Easter the cloud will have  additional pieces added to it and it will be put  on display.

Feed the birds

We made beautiful bird feeders to hang in our gardens and they turned out to be quite useful recently during the very cold weather. The girls have been observing garden birds as they feed from them.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhaineamar go léir taitneamh as Seachtain na Gaeilge. Bhí Comórtas na bPostaer ar siúl agus bhí pictiúirí álainn ildaite timpeall na scoile

Bhí na rinceoirí ag damhsa sa halla. Bhí siad gléasta go hálainn

Terenure Garda Station

We had a fantastic trip to our local Garda Station today. We were shown around by Garda Sé who taught us about the different parts of his uniform and he showed us how he used his walkie-talkie to keep in touch with the gardai back in the station. We saw speed guns and breathalyser machines. We all got a turn on the Garda motorbike but we weren’t too happy about being held in the cell…..hopefully that will be the last time any of us see the inside of a cell!! Thank you to everyone in Terenure Garda Station for making us feel so welcome and for everything you do to keep us safe.

Coding Workshop

Some girls from Ms. Carney’s 4th class were delighted to attend a coding workshop in Hubspot today. The girls played a game called Moana and learned some basic coding skills. They also learned about the different parts of the computer and did a fun exercise designing a laptop. Some of the girls created some interesting apps and stickers for their laptops.

When we were finished each pupil received a certificate and a goody bag. A big thank you to Barbara McCarthy, a parent of one of our pupils, who organised the day for us.

Hopefully some of our pupils will become engineers in the future, and like the book we received today become “girls who code”

Snowy Scenes !

It’s hard to believe just how much snow we had around the school! Our caretaker Raz has worked tirelessly to make sure we could open this morning. We all had a great few days off playing in the snow but we’re delighted to back to our normal routine today.

Printing with Jane

On her  most recent visit Jane continued to explore printing technique with the children. It was an intensely busy session and the girls produced individually and in groups.

The group print involved all members working together, deciding on the content and what colours to use. There was a huge degree of excitement as each piece was revealed and they ended up creating beautiful prints to represent the four seasons.
