Book Week

                                 book1

Our biennial Presentation Primary Book Week starts Monday 2nd Feb. We look forward to a busy week filled with activities, author talks, art, competitions and lots of books, books, books!

We hope you’ve all received your Book Week letter (check your child’s schoolbag!) by now. Please use the Comment link below to tell us about one/some of your favourite childhood book(s). We would love to hear about those books that have stayed in your memories and why.

Please send in photos of your child or a family member reading in either an unusual place, or in a favourite reading place. Come in and see the Book Week displays as the week goes on. Don’t forget to drop/swap a book in the front hall.

When Jessie Came Across the Sea

jessie

Here in Ms. Carney’s 3rd class we read a beautiful story called “When Jessie Came Across the Sea”. In this story a young girl leaves her grandmother to emigrate to America. We wrote letters from Jessie to her grandmother to tell her about her journey on the ship and her new life in New York.

Measuring Heights

Tens and Units

We are learning about tens and units in 1st class through games, activities and even through sorting in PE. If you see us around the school, feel free to ask us a number and test our knowledge!

PE

We explored balance in PE. We collaborated in groups to perform a sequence of balances.

Estate Agents.

We opened an Estate Agents in Senior Infants.

We set up our office with a laptop and a phone. There are lots of brochures too.

We have been busy building furniture for our penguins and polar bears.

Magic Maths

Mathematics is everywhere in the real world and we in Presentation Terenure want to draw the girls’ attention to it’s presence in their environment. We want them to look at familiar things and surrounding in new ways.

You may have noticed some new notice boards around the school which are dedicated solely to Maths.

In December we launched our new maths initiative with a “Guess the Capacity Of the Fish Tank ” competition. The lucky winner was Lola Shortt from Ms. Heffernan’s Class with the most accurate guess of 225 litres.  Well done Lola !We also asked the pupils to tell us what their favourite number was and why. Over 350 pupils shared their number with us.

This month we are focusing on Height and Money. Watch this space !

Pop Art

We have been learning all about Pop Art in 3rd class. We learned that Andy Warhol liked to paint brightly coloured everyday objects and he used simple shapes. We drew our own Pop Art pictures.
