Field Trips

Sixth class have been busy since confirmation.  Recently we visited Leinster House. We sat in the gallery and observed and also got a tour of the house. it was very interesting. Last week we visited the EU offices in town where we listened to an excellent presentation about the EU and answered all the questions in a table quiz, We have learned the EU anthem which is “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven. From the EU offices we visited the National Museum. We have been learning about  the Celts and bogs in SESE, so we looked at Celtic artifacts such as the Tara Brooch, Ardagh Chalice, Ogham Stone and of course the bog bodies!

Bingo Night

Congratulations to the Parents’ Association on a highly successful Bingo Night last night. Tickets sold out earlier in the week and the school hall was packed with eager players of all ages. Éanna Ní Lamhna did a fantastic job as “caller” on the night. There was an incredible variety of prizes to be won. The raffle was the highlight of the night and one of our grandmothers, Betty Herridge was lucky enough to win the top prize of One Direction tickets. Her grand-daughter Sarah in 5th class is hoping the tickets will be passed on to her! Ms. Greene hit a lucky streak and walked away with no less than 3 raffle prizes.

A big thank you to all the parents who worked so hard to make the night such a roaring success. Many thanks also to everybody who donated prizes

Choir and Recorder News

choir

On Monday March 3rd the choir took part in the Córfhéile. This is a non-competitive festival of music for primary schools. We sang “Éist”, “Adiemus” by Karl Jenkins and “Love Changes Everything” by A.L. Weber. We really enjoyed the night. it was lovely to hear all of the other school perform too. The moltór gave us a brilliant report.

On Friday March 7th we took part in the Wesley College Competitions. 12 choirs participated and we finished 3rd. We were thrilled. The senior recorder band also entered the recorder ensemble competition. They finished 2nd. Mrs Keating said we did ourselves and our school proud!
