The girls in Ms. Carneys’ 3rd class have been reading The BFG by Roald Dahl. This story is about a Big Friendly Giant. We decided to create our own giants. Some of them are not very friendly and they have interesting and unusual names. If you would like to find out more they can be seen outside our classroom

Junior Infant Garden

It’s late spring and our tulips are looking bright and cheerful. Our onions and cabbages are thriving and hopefully we will have a crop to make us proud. Junior Infants have kept a close eye on the progress of all their planting since last October. If you pass our garden we hope it gives you cause to smile, and maybe you could pull a weed or two if you see one in reach!

Artist Jonathan Barry visits 2nd class

We had a visit from the famous Irish artist and book illustrator, Jonathan Barry.

He has illustrated many famous children’s  books, including The Narnia series,

The Wind in The Willows, Alice in Wonderland, The Secret Garden and Peter Pan.

He has also illustrated adults books, such as Dracula and Sherlock Holmes.

Jonathan told us that his favourite and most popular print is of Peter Pan.  His favourite

characters to draw are Dracula and Sherlock. We asked Jonathan lots of interesting

questions – Grace asked what was his least favourite painting;

Jonathan thought this was a tricky question! Finally he decided that his

least favourite was a painting of Powerscourt Waterfall, as it didn’t look real enough.

He has also drawn pictures of the Titanic, as he’s fascinated by the ship.

Next June and July, he will have an exhibit of his Titanic paintings in the Titanic

Museum in Belfast!

We really enjoyed Jonathan’s visit and hope he comes back again soon!

Felting Fun In First class

Ms. Coughlan’s first class had a felting workshop. A felt artist called Joanna Kidney gave the workshop. The girls really enjoyed it and a montage of their work entitled “New Life In Spring” is on display in the school.

Orchestra Rehearsal

On Monday April 22nd we had a rehearsal with the orchestra. We are going to the Basketball arena on Thursday for our final practice and we will be performing our concert on Friday night, April 26th

Write a book 2013

Well done to the three winners from First Class, Iris, Sophie and Alannah.

They are our Write a book winners for this year.

They had a lovely time in the Fitzpatrick hotel and they each got a lovely medal and a certificate. All of the girls wrote fantastic stories.

Great work!

When I Grow Up

Teddy Bears Picnic

The Knitting and Crochet Club have been very busy working on their Teddy Bears Picnic. The bears have invited their friends the pandas, the dude dolls, greedy pig and other animals to join them. The girls in the club have created a wonderful assortment of food for the picnic including cakes, sandwiches, fruit and biscuits. There is also  popcorn and even some sushi. Well done to all the girls who created such a colourful and scrumptious display !
